Sionic hires Morgan Stanley’s James (Jim) Monahan

We’ve hired one of asset-servicing’s highest profile figures, as a Partner to head up our new asset servicing team

Sionic has expanded its portfolio of specialist financial services with the appointment of James (Jim) Monahan, one of asset-servicing’s highest profile figures, as a Partner to head up our new Asset Servicing team.

Jim’s appointment comes exactly six months to the day after the formation of Sionic, following the merger of global consultancy Sionic Advisors with London-based financial services specialists Catalyst Development Ltd, including asset and wealth management specialists Knadel, on 8th April 2019.

Jim Monahan is a specialist in global operations management, global asset services, change management and implementation, risk mitigation and management. He joins Sionic from his role as Executive Director at Morgan Stanley New York, where he was both co-head of the Global Institutional Asset Servicing line teams and Global Head of the Asset Servicing ‘Change the Bank’ Programme.

Jim previously served as Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Asset Servicing Regional Head for North America, following senior roles at Banc of America Securities, and Merrill Lynch.  Jim has also held several industry leadership positions, most notably on the Corporate Action Section Advisory Board of SIFMA; the Board of Broadridge’s Independent Proxy Steering Committee and on DTCC’s Asset Servicing Advisory Board.

Commenting on his appointment, Jim Monahan says

“I’ve been privileged to have a front row seat in the growth of the global asset servicing industry for more than thirty years – often sitting in the hot seat, dealing with some of its toughest challenges. I’ve also known the original Sionic team for many years and I’m delighted to be joining a truly specialist, global firm growing at such pace.  I’m particularly looking forward to working with clients who know that I appreciate their opportunities, responsibilities and risks first hand.”

Sionic Managing Partner John Byrne adds

“Asset servicing is a multi-billion dollar market in which James is both an expert and a pioneer. He has played a foundational role in some of the biggest developments in the brokerage industry, becoming a leading expert in the field and one of the industry’s most respected line and project managers.  We are excited that he has chosen to join Sionic and look forward to working with him in collaboration with the rest of our expert teams to development our asset servicing specialism worldwide.”
